The Portrait Sketch in Oils

$275.00

Over 2 days students will paint a single oil painting from life with Colleen Stapleton.

Drawing directly onto the canvas with paint, the portrait will loosely be ‘blocked in’. It will then be developed by a method of placing broad paint strokes accurately and effectively, to convey the planar structure of the head. Working from simple to complex, the portrait will become more and more descriptive throughout the process.

A focus will be given to identifying & depicting colour variations to create rich flesh tones, and to constructing a paint sketch with speed, gesture & emotion. All aspects of this process will be discussed and demonstrated with individual instruction given.

Some painting experience essential.
