In this class the model will be clothed or partially draped. Students will practice painting the portrait or figure with a focus on colour, design and composition. Through this process there will be the opportunity to explore storytelling and to further develop techniques for representing a range of fabrics and surfaces. Figure drawing experience at JAAS is recommended.

Materials List

A range of brushes in type(ie round, flat, filbert) and size including bristle, soft and a fan brush.(Should be in good condition)

Palette knife (metal)
Palette (for oils/with mixing area free of paint)

Paint- Titanium White, Cad Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Raw Umber, Vermillion, Alizarin, Indian or Venetian Red, Transparent Red Oxide, Ultramarine Blue, Ivory Black. Optional – Cobalt Blue, Chromium Green Oxide, (extra colours may occasionally be desired).

Paper towel
Cloth (eg old T-shirt)
Rubbish bag
Board or canvas (approx 16×18 inch or smaller)
