Join Isabelle Chouinard  for a three day figure painting workshop. at the Rocks. Dates:  October 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 2019. Hours 9.15 am to 3.30 pm,

You will learn about colour perception by making poster studies(small alla prima paintings) of a live model with coloured drapery, with demonstrations and individual tuition by Isabelle Chouinard.

Some figure drawing experience is assumed, and the materials list is in the Additional information section.

Isabelle is a contemporary realist painter living in Sydney, Australia. In 2006, Isabelle began studying painting and drawing at Julian Ashton Art School and was awarded the school’s Thea Proctor scholarship in 2009. Isabelle pursued further studies at the Atelier de Bresoles in Montreal and at Studio Escalier in France.

An emerging artist, Isabelle’s work is sold in both Australia and Canada.

You will be doing a number of poster studies of a few hours each with individual tuition and class demonstrations by Isabelle Chouinard.

A poster study is a small alla prima painting done in a few hours, that demonstrates the overall tonal harmony of the visual field. These studies will help you to see a larger range of colours and are also a great preparation for larger paintings.

Details are subordinated to concentrate on the overall colours and tones, and is a foundation for more highly polished and colourful paintings.

Materials List:
Artist quality oil paint only. Strictly NO Winton, NO Artisan water soluble paint. No hues, only the real colour. Good, affordable and reliable brands are Art Spectrum, Gamblin, Rembrandt, Schmincke Norma, Winsor and Newton Artist’s Oil Colours.
Titanium White Cadmium yellow light or lemon (not hue) Cadmium Red (not hue) Permanent Rose or Quinacridone magenta Ultramarine blue Yellow Ochre Transparent Red Iron Oxide Burnt Umber Raw Umber Ivory black
10-12 small-ish to medium size synthetic bristle brushes. Rounds and filberts. NO bristle
6 pieces of oil or acrylic primed linen cut to size around 8 x 10 inches. No cotton canvas.
Small jar with a lid for medium.
Refined linseed oil, Gamsol odorless mineral spirit.
Masking tape, paper towel roll.
