Marcus studied at Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney after winning the Sir William Dobell Scholarship. He continues to supplement his art practice with advanced studies at the school.
In 2010, he was a finalist, with ‘Honourable Mention’, in the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Prize, a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and a finalist in the Alice Bale Travelling Scholarship Prize.
Marcus was also a finalist in the prestigious Archibald Prize for 2011 with his ‘Portrait of a Seated Woman’.
